The Peaks

Evolving from the pioneering LMS mainline diesels, the British Railways' Type 4 Diesel-Electric Locomotives were a revolution in motive power. The initial batch of engines, D1 to D10, were named after famous mountains and so the 'Peaks' became the name that ultimately applied to the Classes 44,45 and 46.
