Popular culture remembers Rootes as a conservative company, but during the 1940s and 1950s it was an innovative concern coming up with some very original designs.

The origins of the firm go back to 1906 but it must surely be remembered mainly for its post Second World War products such as the ‘Walk-Thru’ van and the remarkable TS3 opposed piston two-stroke diesel engine.

Unfortunately the success did not last and by the mis-1960s sales were falling and dropped well below those achieved by the likes of Ford and BMC/Leyland.

This book tells the story well and is packed with period photographs that will certainly bring back memories of times past.
