Janusz Zurakowski - Legend of the Skies by Bil Zuk with Janusz Zurakowski.
Zuk has written a very well researched book to produce this readable biography of one of the world\'s greatest test pilots - Janusz Zurakowski (Zura). Born in Russia in 1914, Zura grew up in Poland. He became a pilot in the Polish Air Force and when Poland was overrun by the Germans in WW2 he escaped to France and then to England and went on fly in the Battle of Britain. He eventually qualified as a test pilot at t he Aircraft and Armament Experimental Establishment at RAF Boscombe Down. After demobilisation Zura flew as a test pilotwith Gloster and then A V Roe in Canada where he test flew the doomed Avro Arrow. The book is not simply a tale of one man as Zuk has included much background history putting Zura\'s life into perspective and that is what makes his book absorbing to read. A must for the Christmas stocking.
