First published in 1961, this unique series has built up an enviable reputation as being the reference source on ‘retired’ and preserved aircraft in the UK and Ireland. Compiled by Flypast’s ‘OC’ Ken Ellis, it lists over 700 aircraft types, with some 5,000 individual entries arranged by county and contains close to 200 colour illustrations. Museum opening times and contact details are included, along with an overview of recent changes I the ‘fleets’. I found the appendix listing the historic aircraft exports particularly fascinating, as this type of information is hard to come by in such a user-friendly format. An incredible body of work, no bookshelf is complete without it. NP
